The Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child was created based on the Law nr.357-XVI dated 24^th of November 2006, the amendment of article 24 from the Law nr.64-XII dated 31^st of May 1990 regarding the Government, published in “Official Monitor” nr.186 dated 08.12.2006. Based on this legislative act the Ministry of Health and Social Protection was divided in Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child.

      According to the Regulation regarding the establishment and operation of Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child, approved by the Government at 14^th of March 2007, the Ministry has a mission of ensuring the implementation of Government constitutional priorities regarding the development, promotion and implementation of state policy concerning social protection of family and child aiming the provision of social security and support the population standards of living.
